The year 1927 opens with one of the most visually specific USO accounts in the pre-1947 Italian record. On a summer morning at the River Po near Corbola in the Rovigo district, a twelve-year-old girl named Francesca C. was carrying water buckets to the river when a round luminous object dove into the water seven or eight meters away. She watched the surface bubble for three to five minutes before the object rose back out of the river and departed into the sky. Through the object — whether through a porthole, a window, or some other transparent surface she could not determine — she saw a small man visible from the neck up, apparently seated, with human-like facial features and no helmet. The object emitted a whistling noise and a dazzling light that temporarily affected her vision both on descent and departure. She said nothing to her mother, returned home with her water buckets, and kept the account to herself for thirty years before finally telling her husband and son. Italian UFO researcher Paolo Fiorino documented her testimony in full in 1988, sixty years after the event. The behavioral specificity of the River Po case — the water entry, the bubbling surface, the resurfacing and departure, the visible occupant — places it in the small category of pre-modern USO-to-craft transition observations that carry credible witness testimony with no available cultural template to contaminate it.
Against this the year carries the Roerich Himalayan oval — August 5, correctly dated to 1927 in the explorer’s own diary Altai-Himalaya, the linked individual report already on the site — and four additional cases spanning Queensland, California, Nebraska, Romania, and Russia. The February 1927 Fernvale, Queensland encounter is one of the most physically evidenced pre-1947 Southern Hemisphere cases: two brothers watched a domed disc fly overhead, light up the valley, turn and land nearby, then found a ten-meter circle of scorched grass at the site the next morning. The Sausalito, California February sighting adds a named literary witness — writer Ella Young, observing from the Madrona Hotel — whose description of a yellow cigar-shaped craft that progressed by alternately contracting and elongating its body is one of the more unusual locomotion descriptions in the pre-modern record. The August Bakersfield, California landing with physical traces — an 80-foot object observed by one experienced witness in the desert — is Coral Lorenzen sourced and rounds out a year whose geographic range and evidence diversity make it one of the analytically stronger pages in the 1920–1929 series. The Scottsbluff, Nebraska entry below appears to be a misattributed duplicate of a well-documented 1926 case rather than an independent event, and is flagged accordingly.

Summary: In 1988, Italian ufologist Paolo Fiorino managed to hear the testimony of Francesca C. on what she saw nearly 60 years before, in 1927, whereas she was 11 or 12 years old. She lived in Corbola in the district of Rovigo, and one morning when she was going to get drinking water close to the river Po, whereas she was on the bank, she saw a round and luminous object coming from above; which dove in the water at approximately to 7 or 8 meters of her. Perplexed and partly frightened, she initially thought of the possibility of a plane which would have fallen, but after what seemed to her to be three to five minutes, the object came out of the water which seemed to bubble, with many bubbles, and left in the sky. She said she managed to observe, inside the object, without Fiorino being able to determine if it were through a porthole or a window or otherwise, a “small man” visible only from the neck up, so that he gave the impression to be sitting. His head was not covered and his features were similar to those of the humans. Francesca C. indicated to Fiorino on his request, that she had heard a noise like that produced by planes, similar to a whistling sound, without her being sure of that detail. She also remembered to have been dazzled by an intense luminosity coming from the object, even saying that she “almost lost” visual capacity due to the dazzling. This luminosity was present both at the time of the descent and the departure of the object. She evaluated the diameter of the object as approximately of 2 or 3 meters, but it was difficult to evaluate how approximate this was. Not knowing how to explain what she had seen, she remained staggering and rather perplexed. Returned home with the two water buckets, she did not tell anything to her mother nor to others for fear not to be believed. It is only after approximately 30 years that she told about it to her son and her husband. Fiorino notes that the witness used the word UFO only once during the interview. The Corbola River Po case is 1927’s most analytically unusual entry.
