1932: UFO|UAP & Alien Sightings Archive
The year 1932 opens with its strongest aviation case on record: a Danish Royal Air Force flight over Greenland in which Lieutenant Colonel Peter Grunnet and his copilot Lieutenant Tage Anderson — on a photogrammetric survey mission in Heinkel HE 8 seaplanes — spotted a second shadow pursuing their aircraft across the glacier ice. When Grunnet turned to get a better look, what he saw was hexagonal, flat, and apparently made of aluminum or similar metal with no breaks in the surface and no rivets. His copilot Anderson, who later became Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Danish Air Force before his death in 1961, described seeing the object begin following their flight course. Grunnet told the Saga UFO Report in 1977 that the craft was nothing like the flying machines of that period and that he had felt a hostile presence while observing it. Two active-duty Royal Danish Air Force officers — one of whom would rise to the top of his nation’s military aviation command — observing a hexagonal unriveted metallic craft following their aircraft over the Greenland ice sheet gives 1932 its strongest institutional-observer aviation case. March 1932 at Cádiz, Andalusia delivers the year’s strongest CE-III: goat shepherd Manuel Giménez Junquera and colleagues, crouched against a strong wind on the hills, watched a round double-soup-plate object 15 meters in diameter with many windows land nearby before two beings of great stature emerged for approximately 15 minutes and returned — sourced through Chris Aubeck’s Return to Magonia.
The year also carries the St. Paris, Ohio George Sutton photograph — a May 1932 picture whose 1932 license plate dates it precisely, showing a dark unidentified object above Sutton’s shoulder with no street lamps or power poles in the area to explain it, NICAP/Hall sourced. The Killdeer, North Dakota brothers encounter — a two-night event in which a silent rotating disc with colored lights returned a second night and the occupants, who appeared nearly identical to each other, invited the boys aboard and showed them the future including computers and Nazi Germany — is sourced through the Helena Montana Independent Record and sits in the contactee narrative tradition. The Portel, Boulogne-sur-Mer France entity is the year’s most specific humanoid description outside the Cadiz case: an extremely thin three-foot figure in a light-colored tight coverall and opaque helmet, longer than normal arms, who came within three feet of the witness before stopping, bending his head down, stooping forward, and standing there as the terrified witness fled. The year’s geographic spread — Greenland, New Jersey, Wyoming, North Dakota, Russia, Germany, France, Spain, Ohio, Connecticut, California, Canada, Maryland, Belgium — makes 1932 the most internationally dispersed archive page in the 1930–1939 series.

Summary: In a quiet wooded area, 10-year old Howard Menger encountered, sitting on a rock, “the most exquisite woman he had ever seen.” She had golden hair and eyes, and wore a shiny nylon-like seamless outfit similar to what a skier would wear. She said, “I have come a long way to see you, Howard…and talk to you.” She knew where I had come from and what my purpose would be on Earth. She said her people had been watching him for a long time and “we are contacting our own.” The woman was able to answer questions before he could ask them; she seemed to read all his thoughts. She told him they would meet again and warned of future wars and destructions.

Summary: The earliest UFO sighting by Danish fliers occurred in 1932 when three H. E. 8 seaplanes were dispatched to the east coast of Greenland to conduct a photogrammetric survey. “In those days, manned aircraft had no heaters, insulation or pressure suits. Only the daring and hardy ventured into the glacier zone in wood and canvas planes, and many failed to return. The pilot during this particular UFO incident was Lt. Col. Peter Grunnet, a supremely rugged figure who lives quietly in retirement today. His copilot was Lt. Tage Anderson, who in later years became Commander-in-Chief of R. D. A. F., and died in 1961. “We had many adventures flying under primitive conditions in the frozen north,” says Grunnet. “But none compared with this.” Huddled under body-length parkas and numbed by the cold, their breath forming clouds of condensation in front of them, Grunnet and Anderson coaxed the trouble-prone H. E. 8 over a mirror like section of sprawling glacier. Suddenly, the copilot spotted a second shadow pursuing the shadow of their seaplane across the ice. “I looked back and saw something that didn’t make sense,” Anderson was quoted. About a mile behind their plane partly obscured by the glare of sun against snow, a flying object was following their flight course. Grunnet eased his throttle forward. The engines of his H. E. 8 gnashed and vibrated noisily as he forced the plane into a shallow turn, to get a better view of the alien object. “It was nothing like flying machines of that period,” Grunnet, recalling the UFO sighting recently during a visit to the U. S. “It was hexagonal, flat, and seemingly made of aluminum or some other metal, with no breaks in the surface and no rivets.” “At the time, I had a spooky feeling. I can’t explain it. It was as if I ‘felt’ the presence of whoever was inside that craft–and the feeling was hostile. In the years since, I’ve realized that the craft was ‘saucer’ shaped, and I believe it really was a flying saucer.” Anderson’s subsequent rise to Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Danish Air Force and death in 1961 are documented historical facts. CE-I aviation classification.

Summary: Two men, Cecil Main and Frank Carr, spent a few weeks digging for gold in the mountains. After working a rich vein, which seemed to keep continuing into the rock, they decided to use dynamite and save some time getting at more of the gold. After the dust from the blast cleared, they found that the mountainside had been chipping away at led to a small cavern about 15 ft long and 4 ft high. It had been totally sealed off form the outside world with no visible entrance or even small crack leading into it. Inside the cave was a small ledge on which a pixie like creature sat, cross-legged. It turned out to be a tiny mummy about 7” high (18 cm). It’s face looked like an old man’s and it had a flat head, huge eyes and a very wide mouth. It was so well preserved that the fingernails could still be seen on the hands. The top of its head was covered in a dark jelly-like substance. The prospectors carefully took their find to Casper, Wyoming where many prominent scientists, sure of a hoax went to have a look at it. X-rays showed that the mummy had inside him a perfectly formed man-like skeleton with a complete set of human-like ribs. Also shown was a damage spine, a broken collarbone and that the skull had been smashed by a heavy blow. It seems that the “mummy” had met with a violent death. The gelatinous substance on his head was exposed brain tissue and congealed blood. The fontanels—the soft spots in the skull that mesh to a solid plates as a baby matures to childhood—were closed, proving that this had been an adult. It had a full set of adult teeth but overly pointed canines. The overall estimate was that the being had been about 65 at the time of death and dated “far back into history”. Sometime in the 50’s the mummy vanished and his location today is unknown. The Shoshone Nation of Wyoming have legends of the “Nimerigar”, a small race of people who it is said would attack them with tiny bows and poisoned arrows. It was also said they used to kill their own kind with a blow to the head when they became ill.

Summary: In 1932, German newspaper reporter J. Bernard Hutton and his colleague, photographer Joachim Brandt, were assigned to do a story on the Hamburg-Altona shipyards. After being given a tour by a shipyard executive, the two newspapermen were leaving when they heard the drone of overhead aircraft. They at first thought is was a practice drill, but that notion was quickly dispelled when bombs began exploding all around and the roar of anti-aircraft gunfire filled the air. The sky quickly darkened and they were in the middle of a full-blown air raid. They quickly got in their car and drove away from the shipyard back toward Hamburg. As they left the area, however, the sky seemed to brighten and they again found themselves in the light of a calm, ordinary late afternoon. They looked back at the shipyards, and there was no destruction, no bomb-induced inferno they had just left, no aircraft in the sky. The photos Brandt had taken during the attack showed nothing unusual. It wasn’t until 1943 that the British Royal Air Force attacked and destroyed the shipyard – just as Hutton and Brandt had experienced it 11 years earlier.

Summary: Leo Dworshak and his brother were playing in an isolated area reported seeing a strange craft landing nearby. An invisible force field apparently kept him and his brother from approaching the craft. They watched the strange machine rotate “in a complicated way.” It had flashing colored lights on an outer shell, like a band or a belt that circled the vehicle at its widest point. The inner shell seemed to be standing still, or perhaps turning the opposite way. It was totally silent and produced no cloud of exhaust fumes or smoke. The ship left but returned the next night. On this night the aliens, which Dworshak described, as very much resembling humans but looking very much like each other almost like twins invited the brothers onboard the object. After being disinfected the aliens gave them a tour of the craft. They also showed them the future, one that foretold of the home computer and the rise of Nazi Germany. The aliens told the boys that humanity would shun their experience. They also told Dworshak that they hailed from the “12th galaxy” and that they kept 12 of their kind on earth at all times. Inside the spacecraft Dworshak remember seeing chairs that would move to accommodate guests at the pointing of an alien finger. The ship itself had a force field, allowing it to go invisible when needed. Leo again reiterated, “One alien looked very much like the next”.

Summary: Local residents reported encountering strange entities that usually appeared after dawn. The strangers resembled humans, but their legs were directly connected up to their waists, and the upper part of the bodies was fiery like a flame and pulsated. The locals called these aliens “lights”. It was noted that in the places where these humanoids were seen people soon died afterwards and many left the region never to return. Summary: The young witness was returning home late at night along an alleyway when he noticed walking in his direction at about 3-4 meters away a very short humanoid figure. Thinking it was a lost child he attempted to approach it, but was stunned to realize that it was some kind of humanoid wearing a light colored tight-fitting coverall and an opaque helmet that covered its features. The figure was extremely thin, and it had longer than normal arms, as it came to within 3 ft of the witness it suddenly stopped and bends his head down, at the same time stooping his arms and shoulders towards the ground. The figure was completely featureless and was about 3 ft tall. Terrified the witness screamed and ran away from the area. He did not see the humanoid depart. CE-III classification. Specific morphological details (longer arms, stooping forward posture) are pre-contamination markers.

Summary: Manuel Gimenez Junquera, a goat shepherd, and other men of the same occupation, were out in the hills of the city, when they suddenly felt a strong wind and a loud noise. It was mid-day and the weather was good, but it seemed to them that a whirlwind was approaching. The goats panicked and the men crouched down in the grass. Over their heads there passed “a round object, made of something like glass, which emitted strong jets of air from underneath,” sending the dust of the ground up in swirls as it moved. The object looked like two soup plates stuck together with many windows around the edge. It was around 15 meters in diameter. After flying over the young men it landed near to where Manuel was hiding. Two beings of great stature came out of the object. After 15 minutes, which passed very slowly for the witnesses, the beings returned to their craft. The object lifted off the ground and flew away. CE-III classification. Named witness, multiple witnesses, specific craft morphology, giant entities, 15-minute duration.

Summary: During a period of personal crises of his theology, the witness, now a retired pastor, found himself in a city of 16-17 thousand 150 miles west of Toronto, in a street lit up by a brilliant white light. Looking up, he saw the light came from a round cloud with a scalloped edge, about 200 yards overhead; from it streamed down a light like a laser beam. Standing beside him, he saw a young man with golden hair, dressed in a suit of a similar color; he had radiant blue eyes, and was about 5.5 feet tall. He smiled at the man and told him that his work would be in that city, and reminded him “the cottage in the rear of the mansion are as important as those who dwell in the mansions.” He said the witness would be there for 6 years and would work his way to the west coast. EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The Greenland Hexagonal and the Cadiz Double Soup Plate — 1932’s Aviation and CE-III Anchors
The year 1932 gives the archive its strongest aviation case since the 1926 Salt Lake City engine-interference event: Lt. Col. Peter Grunnet and his copilot over Greenland, following a second shadow across glacier ice until Grunnet turned and identified the cause as a hexagonal flat metallic object with no rivets or surface breaks. The hexagonal morphology with no visible fasteners is a structural signature that appears in the 1928 Yakima Washington case (also hexagonal, also riveted — but in that case the rivets were visible), and its recurrence in 1932 Greenland from two named Danish military aviators — one of whom later became Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Danish Air Force — gives it a source credibility that casual encounters cannot match. Grunnet’s description of a felt hostile presence, reported in the 1977 Saga interview rather than in any contemporaneous record, is the retrospective element that weakens the case somewhat — but the craft morphology description stands.
The Cadiz March 1932 CE-III is the year’s strongest ground case: a named shepherd and unnamed colleagues, multiple witnesses, a clear afternoon, a 15-meter double-disc with many windows that landed nearby and disgorged two beings of great stature for fifteen minutes before departing. Chris Aubeck’s sourcing through Return to Magonia gives it primary research credibility. The giant entity type — two beings of great stature from a 15-meter craft — continues the pre-modern tradition of oversized humanoids associated with craft that the 1930 Pittsylvania Virginia and 1930 Bolivia cases also document. The St. Paris Ohio May 1932 photograph is the year’s photographic anchor — a dated, named, NICAP-sourced image with a 1932 license plate as the dating mechanism and no conventional explanation for the dark object above George Sutton’s shoulder. The Portel France entity — extremely thin, three feet tall, longer-than-normal arms, stooping forward posture at three feet distance — is the year’s most morphologically specific ground entity and carries the specific physical detail that pre-contamination CE-III cases require. 1932 is the most geographically dispersed year in the 1930s series to this point and the most varied in evidence type.
From the 1932 Greenland entry, sourced via SAGA UFO Report, October 1977:
“It was hexagonal, flat, and seemingly made of aluminum or some other metal, with no breaks in the surface and no rivets. At the time I had a spooky feeling. I can’t explain it. It was as if I ‘felt’ the presence of whoever was inside that craft — and the feeling was hostile.”
