Road mender Andre Narcy was on his way to work when an orange glow in a field pulled his attention off the road. What he found, walking closer, was a domed disc big enough to fill a barn and, standing near it, something that looked less like a spaceman than an animal wearing a coat of its own thick hair. He called out. Whatever it was didn’t answer — it simply turned, climbed back aboard, and left behind a wash of displaced air strong enough to flatten a three-meter square of grass into a strange, bleached-milky patch, ringed by twelve prints in a line too regular to belong to any living stride.

Detailed Report

Andre Narcy, a road mender by trade, was riding his motorcycle to work on the morning of October 5, 1954, when something orange caught his eye off in a nearby field. Slowing to look, he made out a disc-shaped object, capped with a large dome, resting on the ground — a substantial craft, roughly ten meters across.

Curious, Narcy stopped and continued on foot, closing the distance to within about a hundred yards of the object. It was at that range that he was able to make out a figure standing near the craft — not quite what he might have expected from a spaceman in the popular imagination, but something closer in appearance to an animal: a being roughly four feet tall, its entire form covered in what looked like a very hairy overcoat.
