Four days after a paralyzing light and two silent entities left him a household name in French ufology, Marius Dewilde went back out walking near the same railroad tracks — this time with his four-year-old son in his arms. What waited for him the second time bore almost no resemblance to the first: a smiling, well-dressed leader with Asiatic features who reached out to caress the boy, handed a live chicken to one of his crew, and patted Dewilde on the back like an old friend before climbing aboard and flying away to the east.

Marius Dewilde had already, by October 10, 1954, become a recognizable name in the growing body of that autumn’s UFO literature — his September 10 encounter near Quarouble, with its calculated thirty-ton ground imprints, had been investigated and written about within weeks of its occurrence. Four days into the new month, he was out walking near his home again, this time carrying his four-year-old son, when history — of a very different character — seemed to repeat itself.
About fifty meters off, resting directly on the nearby railroad tracks, sat a disc-shaped object, its cupola marked with a rectangular aperture at the base and a row of windows along its structure. Dewilde approached cautiously. Several humanoid figures were present around the craft, and one of them — evidently in a position of authority among the group — began moving toward Dewilde and his son rather than waiting to be approached.
